Car of the Month: 1957 Chevrolet owned by Bob and Nancy Doss

Bob and Nancy acquired the car about 20 years ago from Bob’s friend and co-worker. The car was used on a limited basis since it didn’t have A/C or power anything and it overheated even dur-ing the cooler outings. Attending the San Bernar-dino Route 66 Show was about the extent of the travels until a 2010 retirement to Havasu occurred. Since retiring and staying full time in their home that had only seen weekend visits since 2002 , the ‘57 has undergone some major surgery.

The overheating issue was solved with the addition of a Mattson Custom Radiator. Zoops pro-vided a nice shiny serpentine system. Painless wir-ing harness, power windows, Dakota Digital VHX gauges, Vintage Air, Flaming River Waterfall steering wheel on a Ididit tilt column. Before the upholstery was done, the inside was covered with Dynamat Extreme and the front seat was replaced with one from Glide Engineering. Ed Lawrence, member of Relics & Rods and owner of the Recov-ery Room covered it all in Ultra Leather, including the trunk and dash. The sound is Custom Auto-sound. Since completing these little comfort acces-sories, Bob and Nancy have been seen driving it to shows everywhere. Bob says the one thing it needs is a 5 speed—with that extra gear they can run with the big dogs like the Houghtons, Roes & Stiles.
